NGO advises youth on HIV/AIDS

Disturbed by the increasing spread of HIV/AIDS in Nasarawa State and most especially among youths, a faith-based organization, “Community Based Care Support (CBCS)” based at Ola Hospital, has enjoined youth to practice total abstinence from sex.
In a one-day workshop organised for the Catholic youth in collbaration with the Parish Action Committee on Aids (PACA) held at Cathedral hall in Lafia recently, CBCS reiterated the need for “total abstinence from sex as the only means of avoiding the spread of HIV/AIDS.”
Speaking on the topic “faith based perspective towards HIV/AIDS” Chris Ogah identified among others the attitude of most youth towards sexually immorality and unfaithfulness to married partners which are strongly opposed by all religions as major contributor to spread of HIV/AIDS in our society.
Mr. Ogah who is the organisation’s coordinator on prevention and abstinence said the organization was encouraging living according to God’s plan and in conformity with teaching of religious books.
He however, advised youth to try by all means and abstain from sex before marriage, be faithful in their married lives.
Also speaking, the president Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) St. Williams Cathedral, Lafia, Anthony S. Ngwoke urged all youth to be prayerful an very dedicated to their studies so as to become productive to the society afterwards.
Similarly, the project training officer of the CBCS, Bridget Adoda enjoined the youth expecially girls to imbibe the culture of decent dressing.
Highlight of the workshop included question and answer section, voluntary counseling and testing VCT.
